Were You Rear-Ended?

What Filipino Drivers in California Should Know

Were you rear-ended on the freeway or at a stoplight? Stay calm. What you do at the scene and in the following days can make a real difference.

Rear-end crashes are common

They often happen in freeway traffic, at stoplights, or during sudden braking. The rear driver is often responsible, but fault still depends on the facts of the crash.

Do not judge the injury by the car damage

Even when the bumper looks okay, the force can cause whiplash, neck strain, back pain, headaches, or other symptoms. Some symptoms may not appear until days later.

What to do at the scene

Move to a safe place, exchange information, and take photos of both cars and the full scene. Write down what happened while the details are fresh. If anyone is injured or the scene is unsafe, call 911.

  • Get contact information from witnesses and save any dashcam footage.

After the accident

Monitor your symptoms and seek medical care when needed. Report the claim, keep every document, and avoid guessing about fault or saying you are uninjured before you know how you feel.
